Archaeology/Heritage Management Scholarship
Background
The Archaeology/Heritage Management Scholarship aims to provide an Indigenous student studying Bachelor of Archaeology, Bachelor of Arts Online (Major in Archaeological and Heritage Studies) or the Master of Archaeology with a scholarship to support them for the term of their course. The student will have access to supports provided by the Indigenous Student Services team with the option of connecting with a mentor.
The student is required to study Heritage Management-related subjects within their chosen course.
Undergraduate information:
Bachelor of Archaeology has a strong focus on Australian archaeology and heritage, and professional skills – and includes core subjects on Cultural Heritage Management (ARC3MAN); Australian Indigenous Archaeology (ARC3AIA); Historical Archaeology in Australia (ARC3HAA); and the Anthropology of Aboriginal Australia (ABS2001). Note that this degree can only be studied at the Bundoora campus.
Bachelor of Arts (Bundoora) and Bachelor of Arts Online - Major in Archaeological and Heritage Studies has a similar focus upon Australia’s past with core subjects including the Anthropology of Aboriginal Australia (ABS2001); Cultural Heritage Management (ARC3MAN); Australian Indigenous Archaeology (ARC3AIA); Historical Archaeology in Australia (ARC3HAA) and Colonising Australia’s First Peoples (HIS3AAH).
Are you eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
Be intending to enrol into one of these courses:- Bachelor of Archaeology
- Bachelor of Arts Online (Major in Archaeological and Heritage Studies) to be offered to regional students only
- Bachelor of Arts (Bundoora)
- Master of Archaeology (applicants with a focus on Heritage Management, using direct entry based on portfolio of industry experience rather than a bachelors degree are strongly encouraged to apply)
Please note that all of these courses (the Bachelor of Archaeology, Bachelor of Arts Online, and Master of Archaeology) can be studied part-time – meaning that applicants can combine employment with their studies. Additionally, the Bachelor of Arts Online (Major in Archaeological and Heritage Studies) is a fully online degree that can be studied from home anywhere in Australia, without the need to attend campus.

Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected by the University based on their:
- Provide evidence of Indigenous heritage
- Provide evidence of disadvantage (e.g. financial, educational disadvantage and personal hardship). For more information regarding providing proof see here.
- Personal statement (300-500 words) on how the scholarship will impact your life and how you will take the learnings from your course back to community.
Recipient obligations
The recipient will need to undertake a milestone report i.e. 200-300 words to update the donor of their involvement within the scholarship, and to highlight what the opportunity has provided them. This will be at the end of each year, with a final report at the end of their course.
The recipient must maintain satisfactory progress or risk losing the scholarship should they go into academic probation.
