Subject outline

Financial management is concerned with planning, organizing, directing and controlling the financial activities of a business. In this subject you will examine finance theory, and develop the skills of a finance manager to apply the theory to evaluating a business investment opportunities. You will also develop other financial management skills required to evaluate how to fund the investment and operating activities of the business, which will involve consideration as to the most appropriate combination of debt and equity capital, otherwise known as the capital structure, for the business. Emphasis is placed on the way in which these financial decisions, concerning investment, funding, capital structure, and the payment of dividends, are determined, taking into account the effect of relevant tax laws, so as to maximise the value of the business to its owners.
