SOCIETY AND CULTURE: INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY
SOC1SAC
2019
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
Who are we? Why does social inequality exist? Where do people find meaning in their lives? How does social change occur? In this subject, students are introduced to theories and methods that offer new ways of developing the answers to these and other questions. Sociology is introduced as a way of thinking about the world that challenges common sense understandings about modern societies and cultures. This subject addresses La Trobe's Global Citizenship Essential. This entails a deep appreciation of how we live in an interconnected world; being able to recognize and act across cultures and boundaries; and working with diverse communities.
