Subject outline
This is one of two parts (PSY4HNA, PSY4HNB) of the Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours degree. It requires the completion of 120 credit points, either over one year of full time study or over two years of part time study. The main components of the course are (a) a supervised research project, (b) blended seminars on psychological research methods, (c) blended seminars on current issues in psychology and evidence-based psychological assessment and practice, and (d) a blended learning online unit on ethical and professional issues.

01. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a field of study in psychology.
- Activities:
- Formative: Seminars on current issues in psychological science. Essay workshop presentation: Attend research colloquia and write commentaries. Summative: Write an essay that is a critical evaluation of current issues in a selected area of psychological science. Exam
02. Identify and critically evaluate the principles underpinning evidence-based assessment of personality and intelligence, including administering and interpreting commonly used psychological assessment instruments with well-developed judgement.
- Activities:
- Formative: Seminars and teamwork in small-group discussions on evidence-based assessment and professional practice. Summative: Exam.
03. Choose suitable methodologies to address psychological questions, and analyse and interpret data appropriately to draw conclusions.
- Activities:
- Formative: Seminars and teamwork in small-group discussions on psychological research methods in which students learn to evaluate research papers on a variety of criteria (e.g., operationalisation, internal and external validity and power). Online blended learning on data analytic methods and reporting of results. Summative: Exam.
04. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of psychologists in terms of ethical and legal issues, and professional conduct.
- Activities:
- Formative: Online blended learning on ethical and professional issues. Summative: Exam on role of a psychologists, the APS and Code of Ethics, ethical principles and legal issues.
05. Conduct research projects that include review of empirical literature, appropriate research design and methodology, suitable data collection and proper analysis and interpretation of findings.

- Formative: Independent reading and discussions with the research supervisor. Research proposal, conference presentation, ethics application. Summative: Thesis
06. Apply knowledge and skills of psychology promoting respect and harmony among all cultures and diverse communities.
