Subject outline

This subject uses international field studies to develop an understanding of international planning issues and cross-cultural planning practice. The subject provides flexibility and scope for studies in international planning and urban development within developed and developing world cities. It is a fieldwork, project-based subject. Depending on the study period, the destination will vary, but it will involve collaborative study and practice with an international planning agency or university. Students are required to develop an approved fieldwork program in an international setting and are required to undertake appropriate pre-trip briefings and post-trip reporting. Students are required to fund most of their trip costs.

Prerequisites Enrolment into ABURE, ACCPD, AGCPD, AMCPD, AMSPMD. 30 credit points of first-year planning or Subject coordinator's approval.

Special conditions Subject only available as part of an overseas student field visit. Issues of risk assessment and other university requirements will form part of the field work design. Students are usually required to pay a minor administration fee to the overseas university/agency which will be listed upfront. Students will be required to abide by a fieldtrip agreement regarding conduct and participation.
