Subject outline
This unit is only offered to fellows of the Victorian Public Health Training Scheme. In this unit, students are given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the principles, purposes, limitations and applications of different epidemiological study designs including qualitative and quantitative applications. Students will become familiar with Epi Data, Epi Info 6d and Stata 8 as database design and analysis tools. Students bring to the class datasets from their placements or are provided with datasets from previous epidemiological studies and are required to clean, analyse and interpret the data. In the context of discussing these exercises students are encouraged to think through the implications of study purpose design, data collection and management analysis and interpretation, as well as the methods involved in the management of large and small and datasets and data analysis.
