Subject outline

In this subject students will be introduced to nursing within the Australian healthcare context. Areas to be covered include the Australian health care system, clinical reasoning, communication in health care, law and ethics in Australian health care, risk management including infection control, mental health issues, medication management, caring for vulnerable groups, community nursing, perioperative care and investigations and fluid and electrolyte balance. The subject also has a clinical hurdle component. Successful completion of this subject will enable students to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia for registration as a Registered Nurse.
