Subject outline
In this subject you will have the opportunity to extend your knowledge and skills in relation to: The aetiology and pathophysiology of inflammation, acute pain and the cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine systems across the lifespan and; Diagnostic testing (haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, medical imaging) and pharmacology related to inflammation, acute pain and three of the National Health Priority Areas (cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine) across the lifespan. You will be introduced to the theoretical basis of pharmacology including: Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and; The responsibilities, practical skills and scope of practice of the registered nurse in medication administration.

01. Apply principles of pathophysiology and diagnostic testing to individuals experiencing cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine diseases.
- Activities:
- Online lectures and Enquiry based learning workshops centred around case studies of clients with these conditions
02. Apply principles of pharmacology to individuals experiencing acute pain, cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine diseases.

- Case studies investigated using EBL in workshops and via simulation in clinical laboratory setting.
03. Plan appropriate investigations and pharmacological intervention through the application of clinical reasoning and knowledge of the disease process.
