Subject outline
Case Management is the approach used to manage clients within criminal justice and community-based settings. It is used in relation to broad range of people, for example, 'youth-at-risk', victims of domestic violence,individuals on drug treatment and community corrections orders, prisoners, parolees and ex-prisoners. In this subject, through online modules and face-to-face workshops, you will be introduced to the theories, principles and techniques associated with case management. You will learn about the different forms this approach takes as well as the ethical and practical aspects of it. You will gain important skills in relation to communication, referral practices, client assessment and the creation of case management plans, all of which are crucial to achieving best practice. This subject should be taken by anyone who intends to seek a work placement involving case management at third year.

Prerequisites Enrolment in the second year of the Bachelor of Criminology or completion of 30 credit points of Crime, Justice and Legal Studies subjects at first and second year, or by subject coordinator's approval

Special conditions This subject is partly designed to meet the requirements of Community Correctional Services (Victoria). Any criminology or crime, justice and legal studies student intending to seek endorsement to complete a third-year work placement with CCS should complete it unless equivalent training or workplace experience has been previously gained. Successful completion of the subject, including attendance at both face-to-face workshops and successful completion of the in-class assessments, is required for formal endorsement to be considered.
