Summer at the NGV is a gallery-based subject that explores and develops an understanding of contemporary art directly from the summer exhibitions held at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Students will investigate and study from the NGV's major summer international exhibition Between Two Worlds | Escher X nendo, which is the first major Australian exhibition to feature the work of Dutch artist M.C. Escher in dialogue with the work of acclaimed Japanese design studio nendo. While the subject content is embedded within the exhibition, students will explore key conceptual ideas from various positions including art and social history, visual art practice, philosophy and theory, design and architecture. The subject will be delivered at the NGV (International) and will be taught by NGV curatorial and educational staff and La Trobe University academics from multiple disciplines.
