Subject outline
Students attend 10-14 days of clinic in an adult or paediatric setting. This may be through the La Trobe Communication Clinic or at an external facility. The placement will usually take place 2 days per week over 5 weeks, with an intensive option for 4-5 days per week over 3 weeks in January. Students begin to refine the clinical skills acquired over the previous two semesters, applying these more independently as the subject progresses. Students develop clinical skills related to particular work settings and develop their clinical management skills further. Students are expected to reach intermediate level on the COMPASS assessment by the end of the subject. In addition to clinical placement, students will also complete online learning modules, each with an associated hurdle assessment. They are required to attend the subject orientation and a Professional Competency Portfolio workshop (both held in week 6).
