Subject outline

In this subject students learn to identify the characteristics of phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicon which distinguish informal, colloquial and non-standard varieties of Modern Greek from the formal standard language. Differences between spoken and written forms, informal and formal style/registers, and regional/social dialects are studied and practised with specific reference to Modern Greek.

01. Communicate in written Greek at the threshold of language professionalism; ability to discriminate in writing between varieties of discourse and communicative situations; ability to report on educational issues/practices and summarise.

Activities:
Regular language assignments including online quizzes. A medium length essay using the Harvard referencing system and a written test.
