The cultural component this semester is a detailed study of two 20th century autobiographies by Nathalie Sarraute and Georges Perec. In class we will question the tradition of French autobiography in the late 20th century, focus on the generic properties of autobiographical texts, their transformation over time, learn how to read an autobiography and to what end.
