Subject outline
In FRE3006 students undertake written and oral exercises designed to consolidate and build on linguistic skills developed in French 5, enhancing both fluency and accuracy while enabling them to work towards attaining a B1level in the Common European Framework. The subject introduces a variety of new grammar structures and includes extensive listening comprehension activities based on authentic audio-visual materials as well as a sustained cultural component. The cultural component addresses environmentalism in France and the French-speaking world, exploring both its historical context and contemporary manifestations. It focuses in particular on the theme of recycling. Students are introduced to the vocabulary of environmentalism and recycling, and encouraged to reflect on and express in French the different ways in which they can help to protect or improve the environment in their everyday life. As such,this subject addresses La Trobe's Sustainability Thinking Essential. Sustainability Thinking entails a deep appreciation of how the choices we make affect the natural, economic,social, political and cultural systems both now and in the future.
