Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes

01. Apply concepts of plane surveying, plane coordinate systems and differentiate between positional location, coordinate systems and projections to problem solving tasks.

Activities:
Lectures, tutorials, practice problems, directed study, independent learning, assignments, team-based practical exercises and an examination. The practicals are undertaken by small groups in the field, and are assessed through individual reports.

02. Competently determine the location and/or heights of points to third order accuracy, using the appropriate datums and descriptors.

Activities:
Positioning tothird order accuracy will be explained in online modules and reinforced in workshops. The practical application of this will be used in workshop sessions and practical sessions. Assessment will be through practical reports, online activities and examination.

03. Apply the principles of conducting detailed surveys to defined areas.

Activities:
Lectures, workshops, directed study, independent learning, assignments, team based practical exercises and an examination. The practicals are undertaken by small groups in the field and are assessed through individual reports.

04. Demonstrate competency in the use of GIS software in a discipline specific context.

Activities:
Use and application of the software will be demonstrated and taught in lectures and workshop sessions and assessed through practical reports.
