The Sport Study Tour will provide you with the opportunity to extend your formal academic learning beyond the local classroom into the global sport environment. By participating in this program you will enhance your professional skills and knowledge, and broaden your networks in an international sport setting. The program aims to provide Sport Management, Sport Development and Sport Journalism students with a unique experience to immerse yourself in the UK sport system while based at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). This program will provide unique access to the professional and community elements of the UK sport system, leveraging the La Trobe University partnership with MMU and their partners such as Manchester City FC,Manchester City Council and UK Sport. Participating in this study tour in the multicultural and sporting cityof Manchester will enhance your understandingof different cultural contexts, values and practices, as part of the process ofbecoming and global citizen.< p>

Special conditions Students must apply to be accepted into this subject by completing an Expression of Interest Form (EOI) which can be obtained from the Subject Coordinator. To be eligible to undertake this subject, students must have completed 90 credit points of subjects from either a Sport Management, Sport Development, or Sport Journalism major.

01. Explore the UK sport system, specifically the focus of UK national sport policy, the delivery of community sport programs in a multicultural setting, community and elite sport facility and event management issues, and the operations of professional sport clubs.

Activities:
Site visits and presentations from leading UK sport agencies, government authorities and professional sport clubs. Students will participate in facilitated seminars with a variety of industry professionals and take part in guided discussions of the challenges involved in delivering sport in the UK and the differences with the Australian sport system.

02. Work effectively with others to critically analyse the complexities of designing and delivering sport for development and urban regeneration programs leveraging sport.

Activities:
Site visits and presentations from the government authorities and professional sport clubs, including participation in a community sport program. Students will participate in facilitated seminars with industry professionals and take part in guided discussions of the systems used in delivering sport development programs and using sport to drive urban regeneration projects.

03. Critically evaluate the media and communications challenges faced by contemporary sport organisations and their partner organisations in dealing with fans, members, owners, stakeholders and commercial partners.

Activities:
Analysis of a case study of the Manchester City Football Club and its communication and engagement strategy with fans, members, owners, stakeholders and commercial partners. Students will be guided through a case study supplemented by a site visit and presentation from MCFC staff.

Enrolment information Overseas Study Tour. To enable appropriate staff/student ratio and ease of transport in the UK Students in 2nd year of a Sport Management or Sport Journalism degree will have first preference. The rest of the quota can be filled by students undertaking a major in Sport Management or Sport Journalism.
