BIG IDEAS IN BUSINESS

BUS1BIB

2019

Credit points: 15

This subject addresses La Trobe's Global Citizenship Essential. Global Citizenship is about learning to live in an interconnected world, including the social, environmental, political and economic challenges this brings.

Subject outline

In this core, interdisciplinary, business subject you will explore some of the most influential ideas transforming business today, including: digitisation; globalization; and social enterprise. In this subject you will examine the effect of such ideas on business, society and the future of work. In so doing, you will be introduced to the academic and communication skills required to be successful both at university and in business today. This subject addresses La Trobe's Global Citizenship Essential through an examination of the external, global context in which many businesses operate across international cultural, political and institutional boundaries, and the internal context which operates within many businesses involving communication and engagement with a diverse, multicultural group of stakeholders. The subject is also designed to allow you to work closely with fellow students and your class leader, so as to provide you with constant peer support and feedback. Not only will you enhance your communications skills, but you will also engage in thinking about and discussing the big ideas shaping the world of work into which you will soon graduate.
