Subject outline
The industry placement provides students opportunities to consolidate knowledge and enhance skills developed throughout the course in addition to gaining perspectives and skills essential for employment in the industry. Practical experiences and application of scientific and business theory in a commercial agricultural environment will assist students to critically evaluate technical and generic aspects of the agricultural sector as required by employers and the broader industry. These include not only an understanding of seasonal and other agricultural processes necessary for human food production but also management, operational and administrative requirements of an enterprise. Students will be required to understand and demonstrate safe work practices, initiative and the capacity to work independently in a team environment. The placement will provide opportunities for students to create a portfolio that is relevant to a career in a rapidly changing industry.

- Activities:
- The students will attend introductory tutorials outlining the requirements of this subject. By use of a journal, observations and questioning, a report will be prepared on the applicability of the skills used.

02. Demonstrate safe work practices and an awareness of environmental and ethical issues
- Activities:
- By use of a journal, observations and questioning, a report will be prepared on the applicability of the work practices and how they impact on the wider environment.

03. Demonstrate initiative; work independently and as a member of a team
- Activities:
- The employer will provide a report on these issues to both the student and staff coordinating the subject. It is expected that the student and employer will have discussed the performance of the student and vice versa and the student will complete reflections on these aspects in a journal.

04. Gather evidence of experiences and skills to create a career portfolio
- Activities:
