Subject outline
In this subject students will build on concepts presented in Ophthalmic Investigation and Diagnosis and Ophthalmic Pharmacology. Students will develop an understanding of the management of ophthalmic cases particularly within the context of major eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and systemic disease. Using an enquiry-based learning program, students will integrate theoretical concepts with clinical techniques to apply optical, pharmaceutical and surgical management of ophthalmic pathology. This subject will equip students to progress to the Orthoptic Clinical Practice subjects.

01. Analyse and synthesise clinical data to make an independent diagnosis
- Activities:
- With a focus on the main groups of ophthalmic disorders, case studies will be presented in the lectures and workshops in order for students to develop their skills in differential diagnosis and interpretation of clinical information. This will be assessed via the mid-semester tests and end-of-semester exam.
02. Analyse clinical data and apply clinical judgement to develop an ophthalmic management plan
- Activities:
- The material presented in the lecture and workshops will enable students to build on their current knowledge of various ophthalmic disorders to incorporate treatment and management plans based on clinical presentation. This will be assessed via the mid-semester tests and end-of-semester exam.
