In this subject you will have the opportunity to extend your knowledge and skills in relation to: The aetiology and pathophysiology of inflammation, acute pain and three of the National Health Priority Areas (cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine) across the lifespan and; Diagnostic testing (haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, medical imaging) and pharmacology related to inflammation, acute pain and three of the National Health Priority Areas (cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine) across the lifespan. You will be introduced to the theoretical basis of pharmacology including: Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and; The responsibilities, practical skills and scope of practice of the registered nurse in medication administration.

Prerequisites Students must be enrolled in one of the following courses: HBNGEW, HBNGEB, HBNGE, HBNGEM, HBNGES, HBNENW, HBNENB, HBNEN, HBNENM, HBNENS, HBN, HBNM, HBNUP, HBNPRW, RBN, HBNP, RBNP, HSBNW, HZNM, HBNSK and HZNMD. For students enrolled in HBN, HBNM, HBNUP, HBNPRW, RBN - Bachelor of Nursing or HZNM or HZNMD-Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery then must pass NSG1INA and NSG1NAM.
Co-requisites No co-requisite applies for students enrolled in HBNSK (Singapore). Students enrolled in HBNGEW, HBNGEB, HBNGE, HBNGEM, HBNGES, HBNENW, HBNENB, HBNEN, HBNENM, HBNENS - NSG2TBN. For all others - NSG2ANA.

01. Develop and understanding of the aetiology, pathophysiology, and diagnostic testing for specific health priorities (cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine)
- Activities:
- A selection of interactive materials using case scenarios to introduce the student to the concepts related to each health priority.
02. Apply clinical reasoning to the analysis and interpretation of assessment data in planning patient centred nursing care for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions with a particular focus on medication management.
- Activities:
- Development of Nursing care plans and safe medication management for patients with National Health Priority cardiovascular, respiratory and/or endocrine diseases: assessment, goal setting, therapeutic interventions and evaluation of person-centred care
03. Undertake a comprehensive pain assessment and carryout effective acute pain management
- Activities:
- Development of Nursing care plans and safe medication management for patients with National Health Priority cardiovascular, respiratory and/or endocrine diseases: assessment, goal setting, therapeutic interventions and evaluation of person-centred care
04. Provide safe management and accurate administration of client medications in the simulated and clinical environment
- Activities:
- Introduction to Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and safe medication administration and management processes. Calculations for safe medication administration
05. Explain the legal, ethical and professional parameters for clinical management of patients
- Activities:
- Legal and ethical considerations associated with medication administration.
06. Demonstrate a self-directed approach to the development of your professional nursing role through the acquisition of knowledge and clinical practice

07. Demonstrate safe and therapeutic practice when planning and delivering care for people with mental health issues and their carers
