Subject outline

In LAW5PIL (Public International Law), students are introduced to rules that govern relationships within the international community between States, States and other subjects of international law, and to a limited extent between States and their citizens. Students are provided the opportunity to reflect on substantive values underlying international law with particular focus on the relationship between international law and national law and enforceability of international obligations. Topics covered include sources of international law, the creation and recognition of states, state responsibility, state jurisdiction and immunity, international dispute resolution and the use of force under international law. Students are equipped to reflect on domestic and international political events from an international rule of law perspective.
