Subject outline

In this subject students consolidate the language skills acquired in second year Indonesian. Using a range of authentic audio-visual texts and task-based communicative activities students develop their ability in interpersonal skills, their ability to talk about their lifestyle, their ability to reflect on similarities and differences in ways of doing things in Australia and Indonesia, and their ability to discuss contemporary social issues in Indonesia. Students must take AST3CIA with this subject.

07. To be able to write about issues in contemporary Indonesia using an appropriate register and fragments of a regional language where appropriate.

Activities:
Writing accounts of students daily activities and similarities with an Indonesian setting, writing news stories about contemporary affairs in Indonesia, preparation of written component of group role play about contemporary affairs in Indonesia, preparation of debate on contemporary affairs in Indonesia.

08. To engage with the local Indonesian community, read and watch online material, be able to apply skills to new contexts in order to learn how to appropriately interact, go on a short exchange to Indonesia.

09. To find, critically evaluate and manage complex texts. To synthesize and evaluated these sources and to apply knowledge from these sources to novel problems. To engage in open inquiry.

Reading to produce written work, using referencing and bibliography. Reading to present an informative 'long turn' in oral. Reflecting on process and progress in learning (through use of criteria-based assessment sheets), using assessment sheets to aid planning for future learning activities, engaging in interviews with native speakers.
