Subject outline

In this subject, pre-service teachers use knowledge and skills to develop pedagogical content knowledge, planning, implementation, reflection, assessment and reporting as relate to the Victorian Certificate of Education curriculum documents for senior secondary Psychology. The emphasis is on effective teaching and learning within an Australian context, drawing upon the examples of current curriculum and professional frameworks. Theoretical concepts, pedagogical principles state and national curriculum structures within senior secondary Psychology teaching, learning and assessment are taught, examined and applied across the learning activities and assessment tasks. Pre-service teachers will consider, demonstrate and reflect upon a theoretically, pedagogically and research-informed professional understanding of senior secondary Psychology. Concepts, issues and developments, external and internal assessment requirements and practice, integration of literacy and numeracy, application of learning technologies, audio-visual materials and resources.

01. Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts, skills, structure of the content and teaching strategies of health education, and an in-depth understanding of how students learn in Psychology education

Critically analyse, plan and synthesise, a range of learning and teaching activities and sequences for secondary students which involve a variety of pedagogical approaches and resources (including safe and ethical pedagogy and use of resources including ICT) appropriate to state and national curricula

03. Describe, design, and evaluate a unit of work involving a variety of teaching strategies which cater for individual differences in student learning across a range of abilities, and integrate literacy and numeracy capabilities and cross curriculum priorities of state and national curricula in Psychology at senior secondary school level

04. Examine the relationships between assessment, feedback and reporting, learning task design, student engagement and knowledge and skills to be developed in Psychology education, and apply to the requirements of curriculum documents.
