Subject outline
In this subject students will study the concepts, structure and content of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) for Physical Education (PE) (Units 1-4) with the aim of developing discipline knowledge and understanding to be able to implement study design details within the classroom context. Particular emphasise will be placed on the complex relationship between curriculum, teaching and assessment to design learning sequences that use a range of teaching strategies to maximise student learning in this curriculum area that align with relevant curriculum frameworks.

01. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content and teaching strategies of Physical Education, and an in-depth understanding of how students learn in Physical Education.

02. Critically analyse, plan, synthesise and implement a range of Physical Education learning and teaching activities and sequences for senior students (Years 11 & 12). These include a variety of pedagogical approaches and resources (including safe and ethical pedagogy and use of resources including ICT where appropriate) appropriate to state and national curricula.

03. Describe, design and evaluate a unit of work involving a variety of teaching strategies that cater for individual differences in student learning across the full range of abilities and integrate general capabilities, including literacy and numeracy, and cross curriculum priorities in Physical Education.

04. Examine the relationships between assessment, feedback and reporting, learning task design, student engagement and understanding in Physical Education. Apply these relationships to the development and modification of curriculum documents.
