Subject outline
This subject draws on concepts from the Australian Curriculum for Mathematics, including Content strands - Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geomentry, Statistics and Probability, and Proficiency strands - Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning. Students explore the nature of mathematics, the structure of the mathematics curriculum, the attributes of effective mathematics teaching, and strategies to engage, support and assess children's learning. Students are given the opportunity to broaden their quantitative literacy through developing their knowledge and confidence with basic mathematical and analytical concepts and operations required for problem solving and investigation, real world applications, and for effective teaching of mathematics. Students examine how such approaches contribute to their own learning, and the implications for learners in schools.

02. Demonstrate developing knowledge of effective pedagogical approaches to specific mathematics content with a particular focus on the psychology of learning mathematics and student centred learning in primary and middle-years schooling.

03. Design and implement mathematics lessons that consider principles associated with effective discipline-specific mathematics instruction and theory related to how students learn, and that integrate a range of tasks, high quality resources and materials to support the learning of all students.
