Subject outline
CIV4INA is a capstone subject which requires students to reinforce and extend their learning to date through in-depth investigation of a research topic that illustrates applications of themes already dealt with in their course. Students work in pairs on their project and are encouraged to choose a topic with an industry focus. Topics may be suggested by the students or by academic staff members in line with their areas of expertise. This subject seeks to develop skills and attitude necessary to successfully complete an engineering project and write a thesis. In order to gain a mark for this their final year engineering project, students must also enrol and complete the subject requirements for CIV4INB. The two subjects together are similar to an honours thesis.

02. Apply good organisational and teamwork skills to achieve steady progress in independent learning situations.
- Activities:
- Students must continue to learn how to work effectively in a team and manage their time efficiently to succeed in this subject. Supervisors give general direction at weekly meetings. However, it is up to the teams to organise their day to day activities to make progress. Students from each team are expected to keep a log book for recording their day to day activities which documents their progress towards completion of the progress report. The progress report will include a literature review.

- Each team submits an intermittent report which describes their project progress to date and the plan for completing it.

Independent Research
Five 1.0 hours independent research per week and delivered via face-to-face.
"This unit is similar to an honours subject in a science degree. The 5 hours/week requirement is a nominal specification for the subject. Students work independently on their project, and maintain regular contact with their supervisors."
