Subject outline
In this subject, students will be introduced to major groups of plant pathogens that are of biosecurity concern. How pathogens are classified and the methods for diagnosing pathogens into major groups will be discussed in the context of: host symptoms; methods of detection; pathogen life cycles. How pathogens interact with plants and the influence that environment has on these will be covered. Host-pathogen interactions will be introduced with regard to plant immunity, resistance and susceptibility. Options and limitations for prevention, eradication and control of pathogen invasions will be discussed. The subject material will be delivered flexibly.
