Subject outline
In this subject students will be given the opportunity to engage critically with writing about Australian Aboriginal experience of colonization from the frontier to today. Through the works of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal writers of letters, pamphlets, life writing, fiction, poetry and drama students discover the diversity of interpretations of Aboriginal cultures and historical experience. Key themes of concern including identity, place, voice and culture will be explored through historical and literary analysis, including the study of changing national contexts which Aboriginal people experienced as the regimes of the protection, assimilation and self-determination eras.
