HBS102
HUMAN BIOSCIENCES B
HBS102
2017
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject, students will continue with the study of anatomy and physiology and apply the concepts of human structure and function introduced in HBS101, to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Anatomical principles and terminology will be applied to relevant body systems and the concept of integrated function of multiple systems in one body region, the trunk, will be introduced.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes
01. Apply relevant anatomical principles to describe the structure and function of selected body systems.
- Activities:
- On-line learning activities related to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. (e.g. interactive on-line activities identifying the major bones of the body or specific muscles.) Virtual classroom, synchronous and asynchronous activities building knowledge of of the musculoskeletal system
02. Apply relevant anatomical principles to integrate structure and function of body systems within an anatomical region.
- Activities:
- On-line learning activities related to the structures of the trunk (e.g. interactive on-line activities relating to discovering the function of the muscles of the back, or the organs of the abdominal cavity and their relationships to each other). Virtual classroom, synchronous and asynchronous activities building knowledge of the position of muscles, bones and organs of the trunk.
03. Use appropriate skills to achieve significant outcomes in a human bioscience enquiry.
- Activities:
- On-line synchronous and asynchronous learning activities are based around 3 major enquiries. Students work both independently and with others via synchronous discussions to complete activities which develop their skills in interpretation and reporting of outcomes of their enquiry.
