Subject outline
This is a skills development subject delivered in block teaching over five days, face-to-face at The Bouverie Centre or other location as negotiated. In this subject you will learn some basic, concepts, techniques and skills required for conducting systemic interviews with families. You will acquire skill in deciding who to include in sessions and how to collaborate with a family to develop a focus for the work. Experiential methods including, role-play, will be used to teach specific techniques for managing family interactions; promoting a sense of safety and respectful engagement and managing difference and conflict. Attention will be paid to cultural and other forms of diversity.

03. Track interactional sequences and patterns (verbally and observationally)

04. Demonstrate curiosity, and relational questioning

05. Explore family relationships including transgenerational patterns following family themes and asking about the wider context

06. Manage challenging interactions between family members
- Activities:
- Readings, lectures on managing blame and conflict, coaching, strength-based questioning, narrative questioning, and questioning to elicit intentions and/ or emotions underlying behaviour.
