Subject outline
This subject explores the art of writing about writing from antiquity to the present. It will introduce new possibilities for students' acts of meaning-making as both readers and writers. This subject will offer close encounters with writing on themes such as: originality and its discontents; taboo and the un writeable; sentimentality and artful feeling; and politics, identity, and writing. In this subject, we will bring to light and query common assumptions about writing, participate in contemporary controversies in our discipline, and test the implications in our writing.
