Subject outline
In this subject, students areintroduced to theoretical concepts and underlying values relating to anincreasingly diverse and changing society. The focus is the nexus of community,society, and contemporary schooling practices, positioning students to morefully understand the role of schooling and of educators within broadercommunities. Students consider local and global issues, and the impacts ofdiversity, poverty, and equity issues on children's schooling experiences.Through initiating and engaging in a community service-learning project,students are encouraged to identify, explore and reflect on their underlyingbeliefs, values and attitudes, in relation to their roles as educators. Theybuild on their knowledge of inclusion, and begin to comprehend the manychallenges and opportunities educators face in their efforts to support allchildren to excel. This subject addresses La Trobe's Innovation &Entrepreneurship Essential. Innovation & Entrepreneurship entails developingthe ability to tackle problems creatively, generating new ideas, takingcalculated risks and creating change to achieve ambitions - now and in thefuture.

01. Identify and explain how socio-cultural concepts and change construct people's behaviour, attitudes and values, including your own.
- Activities:
- Students participate in a series of lectures and tutorials throughout the semester. The tutorials offer workshop activities focusing on the set readings asking students to reflect in groups, discuss and justify their position on a range of issues within a supportive environment.
