Subject outline
Creative arts practice is contextualised by the links made to diverse contemporary and historical practices. Expanding knowledge by developing informed and critical understandings of the historical, cultural and theoretical context for art and design builds ways to articulate and analyse complex issues and connections to creative arts practice. The focus in this subject is on understanding how essential themes in International Post Modernism and its historic rejection of Modernism, including art and popular culture, feminism/sexuality/gender, Post Modern design and the built environment, representation and the hyperreal, land and ecology, consumerism and the museum/site specific space inform and extend contemporary practice.
