Subject outline
Essential Studies 1 focuses on building the foundations with academic skills, techniques and capacities to achieve throughout the degree course to enable a creative arts practice. It is a core subject that is aligned with the graduate capabilities of the creative arts graduate of La Trobe University. Contextualised for creative practice, this subject develops and broadens academic study skills, writing, and research methods, by establishing skills vital to contemporary creative arts practitioners to enhance and extend critical and reflective practice. This acquisition of academic skills, techniques and capacities is enabled by engagement through creative practice. By developing analytical and self-reflective writing skills for creative practices, acquiring digital image skills and techniques, and exploring research methodologies to apply to the interactions and relationships between ideas, words, text, and images essential for effective visual communication in the 21st Century.
