Subject outline
In this subject students develop a knowledge of safe, ethical practice in medication administration and are introduced to the general principles of Quality Use of Medications and pharmacology. This will include how drugs are prescribed and administered, how they act in the body and how the body affects drugs. Commonly used drugs will be linked with appropriate pathophysiology. Students will learn pharmacologic, pharacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles for clinical practice. Emphasis will be placed on the role responsibilities of registered nurses for medication administration such as risk management and quality assurance, delegation and supervision, assessment, legislation specific to drug administration and patient education.
