Subject outline
Western theatre began outdoors at the foot of the Acropolis. The management of exterior and interior spaces has been a major theme in the changing shapes of its performance places ever since. In this subject students will investigate theatre architectures; the ways in which theatre spaces interact with the kinds of performance produced in them and the spatial practices of the communities they embody and reflect. Stage and lighting design and the mechanics of theatre operation will also be examined.
