Subject outline
In this subject students are required to examine issues relevant to culture, society, gender and health. The focus is on developing students' awareness of health care issues relating to women and men in Australia and overseas. In regard to women's health, the subject will include topics such as: why women's health, the medicalisation of women's health, women and reproductive health, motherhood and postnatal depression, women and HIV/AIDS, and women and violence. In relation to men's health: emerging men's health issues, men's health promotion, and policies relating to men. The subject also includes a discussion on gender and health within indigenous populations. Students will be encouraged to examine health and gender within social, cultural and political contexts, within both Australian and international settings.
