University Basketball League
The University Basketball League was established in 2020 by UniSport Australia, with La Trobe University becoming a foundation member for the inaugural season.
Students who are selected compete in an 10-week nationwide home and away season against 13 other competing universities around Australia.
Since the league's formation in 2020, La Trobe University has quickly established itself as the most successful university basketball program in Australia with two national Women's UBL titles (2022 & 2023) and a national Men's UBL title (2024).
The University Basketball League is endorsed by Basketball Australia as a pathway for female and male athletes looking to establish both academic and athletic excellence in Australia. Our UBL teams are classified as high performance sport, where athletes are selected based on their level of experience and current playing level.
To be considered eligible to play in either the Men's or Women's La Trobe University UBL team, you must play at one of the following levels:
- NBL
- WNBL
- NBL1
- Big V
Our Men's and Women's teams are led by professional coaches and students have access to our world-class Sports Performance Hub. We also work closely with local clubs to ensure that the demands of existing club training, games and university studies will not compromise prior basketball commitments.
