Strength and Conditioning Lab

Our Strength and Conditioning Lab is a world-class high-performance training and testing facility.

The lab is home to:

  • eight lifting platforms
  • two instrumented racks with force platforms and elite form 3D camera technology
  • several portable force plates
  • a 40m running track that leads directly into the Biomechanics Lab.

Strength is an essential component of most sports. Assessing an athletes’ strength can help coaches guide an athlete’s training to protect them against injury and to improve their performance. This testing package assesses athletes’ strength characteristics including repetition maximum testing (1RM, 3RM or 5RM tests) for common lifts (e.g., squat, bench press, deadlift). Both team and individual player reports will be provided to summarise test results.

Cost: $30 per athlete

Performing a field-based fitness testing battery is an important part of performance profiling and monitoring in team sports. This testing package includes jump, sprint, agility and aerobic fitness tests to provide a comprehensive overview of team sport fitness. Tests can be customised to meet sport-specific national fitness testing batteries (e.g., AFL draft combine). Both team and individual player reports will be provided to summarise test results.

Cost: $30 per athlete

The team sport package combines the field and strength testing packages to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the physical characteristics underpinning a team sport athlete’s performance. Both team and individual player reports will be provided to summarise test results.

Cost: $60 per athlete

Strength assessments are critical in identifying both strengths and weaknesses of athletes. In this assessment, maximum strength is determined through a repetition maximum (RM) protocol (1-5 RM), which is considered the ‘gold-standard’ within non-laboratory environments. Alternatively (or in addition to RM testing), maximum strength can be assessed through separate, less demanding tests (such as an isometric mid-thigh pull test). A strength testing report will summarise testing results.

Cost: $250 per athlete

Isokinetic testing is a lab-based method for assessing strengths and weaknesses at any joint, during any action. The test utilises specialised equipment to test the strength, range of motion and power of different muscle groups. The test provides a comparison between right and left limbs and identifies any injury risk, deficiencies, or areas for improvement. Recognising differences in strength can help prevent soft tissue injuries, as majority of these injuries occur due to an imbalance in strength. The equipment is also used to compare the strength of a limb post-injury in comparison with the non-injured side to gage how rehabilitation is progressing.
