Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev made a short visit to La Trobe Univeristy during his Melbourne trip for the Airport Golf Club 6th Annual Indian Golf Tournament. Around 100 students and staff gathered in the Agora Theatre for the chance to ask the cricketer questions and get an autograph.
- Kapil Dev:
You need a good team and you need a stroke of luck, which is very important sometimes. You need, at that moment, the passionate people to enjoy the game. Sports is to go and enjoy yourself. When you're enjoying sports your performance is much better.
- Narration:
The audience was buzzing with questions about his favourite cricket moments, and his insights into the current cricket scene. Mr. Dev thanks the university for inviting him, and, as a sportsman in an academic environment, he didn't fail to mention how sports and academia can complement each other.
- Kapil Dev:
Thank you very much for inviting me here and giving me the opportunity to talk to you people. I never thought while playing cricket that I could come and talk to the intelligent, the smart people.
- Narration:
Representatives of La Trobe International, The La Trobe Indian Students Club, The Bhakti Yoga Club and Cricket Club all got to meet the Cricketer.
While at La Trobe, Kapil Dev also got to meet the Indian high commissioner. Before departing he signed autographs for the anxious students and staff and express his wish to visit the university again in the future.
