Visitors will get a taste of new state-of-the-art nursing labs currently under construction at La Trobe. Tours of a temporary hub will give prospective students an insight into the clinical simulation learning experience that will be a permanent feature of future courses.

La Trobe Shepparton Head of Campus Elizabeth Capp said the partnership highlighted the rich pathways to further education available in regional areas.

The University is part-way through a multi-million-dollar refurbishment, which will enable more enrolments in areas of critical regional skills shortage including nursing, teaching and business.

La Trobe has invested $15 million in the project, as part of a larger $170 million vision for all its regional campuses over the next five years. The construction is also backed by $5 million from the Federal Government.

Stage one of the redevelopment will provide expanded high-tech clinical spaces, modern study areas, space for industry and research partners, and a flexible space for community events.

“This investment will ensure La Trobe is prepared to address the future education, training and employment needs of the Shepparton community,” Elizabeth said.

“Our partnership with GOTAFE reflects our combined efforts to create pathways for all aspiring students.

“Open Days are a great opportunity for people considering further study to explore subject areas, career paths, talk to career advisors and make decisions about their future.”

School leavers, people wanting to change careers, retrain or re-enter the workforce can find out about subject areas of interest and the impact of tertiary education at the Shepparton Open Day.

Laura Baker, Executive Director Student Experience at GOTAFE, said the Shepparton Open Day was a great opportunity for community members to come and explore local higher education.

“Partnering with La Trobe for Open Day means prospective students will have an opportunity to find the study pathways that suit them.

“Our industry-experienced trainers will be on hand to talk through what to expect when you study with GOTAFE, sharing their passion for the wide range of courses on offer.

“Attending an Open Day is a commitment-free yet vital step in finding your passion.”

GOTAFE will hold a range of interactive workshops, with representatives from the Goulburn Valley League also on hand to host fun activities.

Visitors to Open Day can chat with current students and teachers, explore study and placement options, apply on the spot for the Aspire Early Entry Program and win La Trobe merchandise.
