The University also welcomed the Victorian Government’s announcement on Saturday (20 November) that international students arriving in Melbourne do not need to quarantine, provided they can demonstrate that they meet vaccination requirements.
“Having missed our international students so much over these challenging 20 months, we are thrilled by the Federal Government’s announcement today that international students can return to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption,” La Trobe’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Dewar AO, said.
“This, combined with the dropping of the requirement to quarantine announced by the Victorian Government, will enable more international students to return to our campuses in Melbourne and across regional Victoria and will encourage new international students to study with us.
“I’m excited that our campuses will very soon be safely reopening for all of our students, and it’s fantastic that our global communities from overseas will be among those who will benefit from the exceptional learning experience and vibrant campus life we offer. We will be doing everything we can to welcome and support them on their return.”
The news today follows a Federal Government announcement last week that La Trobe has received $1.8 million to deliver 30 scholarships at its regional campuses under its Destination Australia Program. This will further attract international students to the University’s regional campuses.
