Announced this morning by Damian Drum MP, the funding will be added to the University’s pledged investment in the Shepparton campus, bringing the total to $12 million – enough to commence the project.
La Trobe’s Head of Campus, Shepparton, Ms Elizabeth Capp said the funding recognises the vital role the campus plays in regional Victoria’s economy and education.
“This additional funding is great news for La Trobe and particularly for staff and students in Shepparton,” Ms Capp said.
“The extension to our campus building will ensure that La Trobe’s Shepparton students have the best possible experience.
“It will enable us to further expand and diversify our teaching programs to meet local demand and workforce needs, and develop greater research capacity in partnership with local industry and regional organisations.”
La Trobe Vice Chancellor, Professor John Dewar, welcomed the funding.
“Over the last 10 years, student enrolments have increased by 160 per cent at La Trobe Shepparton. We currently graduate about 140 students per year, with over 70 per cent commencing work in regional Victoria,” Professor Dewar said.
“Not only is this campus an important economic and educational resource for the community, but its social and cultural value is just as significant.
“The investment made by the University, and Federal, State and local governments in construction of the existing campus has been an exceptional success. The extension will allow us to continue this success story.”
