Feeding the next generation of graduates

Students are lining up to try out a variety of new food options as La Trobe University brings food trucks to its Melbourne Campus.

Hungry students are being treated to two new Food Truck options every Wednesday during the semester.

Cheeseburgers, waffles, cheesesteaks and a variety of other food options will be available to keep students fuelled for learning.

La Trobe University alumnus Bill Jacobs is taking part in the initiative with Dos Diablos, a mobile cantina serving up tacos and a variety of other Mexican street food.

“It’s fantastic that La Trobe is offering such diverse food options on campus and really listening to what people want,” Mr Jacobs said.

“I really enjoyed my time at La Trobe as a student, so on a personal level it’s great to be back.”

Bill Jacobs was a mature aged student who graduated with a Bachelor of Media Studies in 2005 and studied a Diploma of Education in 2008.

The media degree, along with his background in hospitality, gave him the experience and confidence to run catering companies both in Australia and overseas, working on major sporting events and music festivals.

“Food trucks were a natural progression for me and the ‘Dos Diablos’ concept came from my time spent in the US where Mexican food is everywhere,” Mr Jacobs said.

“Having a background in events has helped in understanding the demand for fast and fresh quality food across Melbourne’s busy festival calendar.”

“My degree definitely has been helpful in understanding how to best gain media exposure and promotion. Completing the degree has proven to provide the essential skill set in building a successful business.”

The Dos Diablos Mobile Cantina will be serving up Mexican street food at La Trobe University’s Melbourne Campus on Wednesday May 17 from 11am to 3pm.
