Psychology supervisor training short course

New short course will support psychologists to become Board-approved supervisors

A new course from La Trobe’s School of Psychology and Public Health will support psychologists to become Board-approved supervisors.

Associate Professor Karli Treyvaud, Head of the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Therapy, said the course is designed to increase psychologists' knowledge, skills, and competence in supervision.

"We are committed to providing psychologists, particularly those working in regional and rural communities, with access to training and qualifications to meet student, intern and workforce needs for high-quality supervision."

“La Trobe trainers are experienced teachers, psychologists and Board-approved supervisors themselves. Our flexible Psychology Board-approved training courses take an evidence informed and best-practice approach to supervision to support the ongoing development of the psychology workforce in Australia,” she says.

The course will be delivered by clinical psychologists and Board-approved supervisors, Dr Steve Halperin and Dr Eric Morris.

Delivered in three parts, the course features an online self-paced knowledge assessment, in person or online skills training workshop, and competency-based assessment and evaluation.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement, enabling them to apply for Board-approved supervisor status.

For those who are already in a supervisory role, La Trobe is offering a masterclass series to extend refresh Board-approved supervisor status.
