Law School Dean appointed

Professor Lorne Neudorf to serve as Dean of the La Trobe Law School

Professor Lorne Neudorf has been appointed Dean of the La Trobe Law School for an interim period until the end of 2025.

Former Dean, Professor Fiona Kelly, who recently commenced in her new position as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta, congratulated Professor Neudorf on his appointment.

"I have worked closely with Professor Neudorf over the past two years and have been consistently struck by his strategic insight and collaborative approach to leadership. I have no doubt he will do an outstanding job leading the Law School into its next phase of development."

Prior to his appointment, Professor Neudorf was the La Trobe Law School’s Deputy Dean and Associate Dean, Academic and Partnerships. Before joining La Trobe, he was Deputy Dean of Law and Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide. He has also taught public law in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Professor Neudorf specialises in legal institutions and the lawmaking process, with a particular interest in delegated legislation. His work has been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada, state and federal parliaments and the executive government. He has also held several research grants as Chief Investigator, including from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Professor Neudorf is also Legal Adviser to the Australian Senate’s Committee for the Scrutiny of Delegated Legislation. In that role, he assists the Committee with its work in providing parliamentary oversight of all newly made legislative instruments.

"La Trobe Law School is an exceptional place to study Law and Criminology,” Professor Neudorf says. “Through the La Trobe Law Clinic and placement network, our community-minded students are already having a real impact.”

“The Law School is home to a team of outstanding teachers and researchers committed to creating a supportive learning environment. I am privileged to take on the role of Dean of Law during the interim period to further strengthen the Law School’s reputation for graduating outstanding legal and criminology professionals and the leaders of tomorrow."
