As a mentor, my aim was to support my mentee in adjusting to university life, both academically and socially. I was thrilled to have been paired with Chloe, who shared my interests and quickly became a close friend. Beside assisting her with study tools and sharing tips, we enjoyed hiking off-campus together. Despite our different fields of study, we found plenty to discuss thanks to the matching system of the program, including hobbies and cultural differences. The program not only benefits the mentee, but also the mentor. I found myself learning a lot from Chloe, particularly about domestic culture, as she’s a local student while I’m an international peer. I was also able to make a new friend and we have planned more future catch ups outside of the program!
“The mentor program has been so beneficial! My mentor has taught me how to navigate LMS and use the assessment planner which has put me in good stride for my first assignment. While going for amazingly fun hikes and sharing common interests, the mentor program not only set me up comfortably for my first year of uni by teaching me how to navigate new systems but also set me up with a great friend who’s gone through uni like I am.” – Chloe, mentee
