The best recipe for creating your own placement!

At this point of the year, you might be thinking about doing an Industry Placement subject, or you may have already enrolled in one and wondering what’s next.

Find out exactly what worked for Bachelor of Business student and WBL Ambassador, Tien who found her own placement through networking and good planning!

“I got in contact with a mentor from La Trobe Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. I proactively asked them to get involved with their start up, showing the passion for business and community engagement. I also made a list of desired companies to reach out to – a targeted approach to identifying industries, companies, and contacts whilst clarifying my goals and building knowledge about potential careers”.

“I found the resources provided by La Trobe, especially the Student Sourced Checklist and Career Ready Online invaluable in preparing my application and making a strong first impression”.

“From a personal perspective, taking initiative to contact industry professionals and demonstrating genuine interest can open doors to unique opportunities. The journey of securing a placement teaches valuable skills such as networking, self-presentation, and strategic planning. It’s a hands-on way to apply what I’ve learned in the coursework to real-world scenarios”.

“Finding your own placement not only enhances your employability but also contributes to personal growth. It’s an empowering process that prepares you for the professional world while allowing you to align your academic learning with your career aspirations”.
