Plastic Free July: Small actions, big change

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution.

Every year, Australia consumes close to 3.5 million tons of plastic, and the average Aussie discards 130 kilograms of plastic – 84% of that plastic is sent to landfill, and only 13% is recycled.

Join us and be part of the Plastic Free July Challenge by refusing single use plastic!

Here are some ways you can participate at La Trobe University:

  • BYO coffee cups when grabbing a coffee.
  • Choose reusable crockery (cups, cutlery & crockery) at the Melbourne Campus, as part of the Reusable Revolution.
  • Choose to reuse by filling up your water bottle at our drinking fountains across all campuses.

Here are some other ways you can participate in your everyday life:

  • Always BYO reusables bags when shopping, including reusable mesh bags for fruit and vegetables.
  • BYO containers, keep cups, and reusable straws when having take away food and drinks.
  • Shop from bulk stores, where you can bring your own jars.
  • Store leftovers in containers rather than using plastic wraps.
