World Social Work Day will be held on March 18 and this year’s theme is Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing.
The theme focuses on the importance of caring and respecting across generations to build strong societies, sustain the environment and share wisdom for a better future.
The day will be celebrated across our regional campuses, with students invited to join 120 industry partners who have teamed up with La Trobe to highlight the importance of social work.
Events like World Social Work Day are an important way to attract students to the profession, says industry partner Yes Unlimited CEO, Di Glover.
”It’s vital we continue to attract students to the profession. The structural lens that social workers bring to rural communities is particularly unique.
”Yes Unlimited has a very long history of providing student placement opportunities for social work students of La Trobe University. We have a strong focus on driving systems change to meet local need, as opposed to simply delivering funded programs. Systems change is work is very important in rural and regional communities where services on the ground are scarce and resources are limited.”
